We had been struggling for years to explain what made our practice different from other mid-sized firms. The Positioning Practice engagement gave us a two-page note that we now give to every new associate and every prospective client who asks about us. It is more useful than anything we had produced internally.

The Workshop Review was worth doing. Our proposals had grown loose over the years — each partner writing in their own style, with no consistent voice. The house style note gave us something concrete to work from. The workshop itself was a good half-day; honest, not flattering, which is what we needed.

I used the Single Sketch to test the waters before committing to a full positioning engagement. The three alternative drafts for our About page were genuinely different from one another — not minor variations. We went with a version close to the second draft, and the follow-up call was useful for understanding why each approach had been chosen. Good starting point.

What I appreciated was that they pushed back on our initial thinking. We came in with a fairly clear idea of how we wanted to be positioned, and by the end of the second session it was clear that idea would not serve us as well as we thought. The final note was quite different from where we started — and considerably better for it.

A thoughtful practice. The Workshop Review took six weeks from start to finish, which felt slow at the time but, looking back, the interval between the reading and the workshop day was genuinely useful. Our team arrived having had time to think about what they had sent in, which made the workshop conversation more honest.

The six-month follow-up review is the detail that convinced me this was a serious practice. Most engagements end on delivery day. The fact that Mythara returns at six months, reads the note again, and asks honestly whether it still holds — that is not standard. We did make a small adjustment at that point, which turned out to be the right call.

Three engagements, described in brief.
A Johor Bahru commercial law practice
The situation
A twelve-partner firm with strong sector expertise in property and construction, but a client-facing description that did not reflect any of it. Proposals described the firm in broad terms applicable to almost any commercial practice in Malaysia.
What we did
Three sessions over six weeks. The partners described the mandates they found most interesting, the ones they had declined, and the clients they could serve better than anyone. From those conversations, a short positioning note was drafted and refined.
What followed
The firm revised their standard proposal cover, their website About page, and their introductory note to new clients using language from the positioning note. In the six months after, they reported a clearer sense of which instructions to pursue and which to pass on.
"We had spent three years trying to write our About page ourselves. The positioning note gave us something we could actually use."
A regional accounting and tax advisory group
The situation
A growing advisory group with partners from three different professional backgrounds, each writing in noticeably different styles. Proposals read as though they had come from different firms, which some clients had raised informally.
What we did
Read a month of recent proposals and standard correspondence, annotating carefully. Ran a half-day workshop with the five partners most involved in client writing. Delivered a house style note covering voice, structure, and a short list of phrases to retire.
What followed
The group adopted the house style note as part of their new partner onboarding material. Correspondence consistency improved within two months, based on the group's own assessment. One client noted, unprompted, that the firm's communications had become easier to read.
"The house style note was unexpectedly practical. We still use it when reviewing proposals before they go out."
An independent management consultant
The situation
A sole practitioner who had built a strong referral network but whose online presence described her work in terms she herself felt were inaccurate. She had written and rewritten her About page four times over two years without satisfaction.
What we did
Read her existing materials and took a briefing call. Produced three distinct approaches to framing her practice — each roughly four hundred words — for her to consider. Followed up with a call to discuss the thinking behind each.
What followed
She published a revised About page based on a hybrid of the first and third drafts. Subsequently engaged Mythara for a Positioning Practice engagement six months later to develop the broader note around which the About page could sit.
"Two weeks and I had something I actually wanted to publish. The three drafts were more different from each other than I expected."
